Best Edition Vietnamese: Simple Vietnamese Food to Cook at Home with FREE PDF EDITION!

I'm a graphic designer by day--chef by night (just as a hobby), and somewhat of a hardcore minimalist when it comes to acquiring *things*--especially picky about cook books--they're something I typically wouldn't consider buying since it generally feels unnecessary to have recipes in physical form.I was intrigued by the cover of this book though, and as a big fan of Vietnamese food, I had to pull the trigger. And honestly... I planned to return or gift the book if the layout design of the interior wasn't on par with the cover, or is the recipes bleh... I know that might sound ridiculous, but that's how I think lol.I love everything about this book.I'm not Vietnamese, but I've lived in multiple Vietnamese-populated areas of the US (Buford, GA, and now I'm in SGV in CA). One thing that's always sort of bothered me is that Vietnamese "authenticity" seems to be correlated with... ugly appearance? My friend said that the best Vietnamese places get B and C health ratings "If it gets an A, it's probably not good". And if the presentation is too nice, people will claim it must not be authentic, or it's "for white people". Maybe that's just my friends' senses of humor... but I assume people came at this book with the same pre-conception since a majority of the comments in the reviews talk about authenticity as if they expected inauthenticity. I know these things are said jokingly for fun, but there's always a little truth to it...Also, compared to other cultures' food, it seems somewhat rare that Vietnamese is cooked at home, since a lot of the recipes area best made at scale, and somewhat complicated/laborious to make as a dinner for 2-4. So it seems that it's often restaurants and grandmas cooking for extended families that do that cooking. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's my interpretation and none of my Vietnamese friends my age seem to know much about cooking.So I appreciate Uyen Luu for contributing to keeping Vietnamese cooking in front of people, and probably introducing it to a lot of those outside of the bigger cities who may have never experienced Vietnamese food beyond Pho. I do appreciate that the recipes are authentically simple. But I also appreciate that effort was put into making everything look aesthetically appealing.So, this gets it's place in my small collection of coffee table-worth design books.
